K-pop groups aiming to capture the Japanese music market should take their cue from boy band TVXQ
(aka Tohoshinki in Japan).

Proving once again their awesome ability to surpass their own records, TVXQ topped the Japanese Oricon chart
recently with their “Best Collection 2010” CD album.

The collection sold a whopping 228,542 copies on the first day of its release last February 17,
according to Oricon data.

TVXQ beat Japanese pop group AAA’s “Heart and Soul” album, which sold a measly 16,822 copies;
and hip hop band Funky Monkey Babys’ greatest hits album “Best,” which garnered only 10,868 copies in sales.

With the feat, TVXQ's “Best Collection 2010” is now the sixth best-selling album in Japan since 2007 based on
first-day sales, according to TVXQ’s Korean fan forums dnbn.pe.kr.

“That number is staggering for the first day of sales. Congrats to the boys. I bet that they are over the moon,”
wrote an Australian fan with the username Hoodwinker on the TVXQ international fan forum www.onetvxq.com.

“This is the power of TVXQ,” posted a Filipino fan on the Cassiopeia Philippines forum.

The new record comes just a week after TVXQ’s 29th single, “Break Out,” was certified platinum in Japan,
selling 255,917 in just one week since its release on January 27.

In the Philippines, Tohoshinki’s “The Secret Code” is also making brisk sales.

“The Secret Code” is at No. 3 in the Music One album chart. The ranking is based on the sales tabulation from
three Music One stores from February 8 to 14.

“The Secret Code” edged out the international album releases of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, the "Glee" Soundtrack
and Alicia Keys.

The album is also at No. 4 based on Astrovision and Astroplus music stores’ top selling foreign albums chart for the period February 8 to 14.

“The Secret Code” is Tohoshinki’s fourth Japanese studio album.
