[TRANS] 100202 Tohoshinki Broke Another Record for Foreign Artists after 12 Years

Korean quintet Tohoshinki has broken the record for foreign artists with the most number of copies sold during the first week for a single. Their 29th single "BREAK OUT!", which was released on 1/27, has topped the Oricon weekly chart of that week. This single, whose first-week sale has exceeded 256,000 copies, has broken the record set 12 years and 4 months ago by Elton John's single "Candle in the Wind (Princess Diana Tribute)" (released in September 1997) with 184,000 copies sold during the first week. They have become the first foreign artist to have more than 200,000 copies sold for a single's first-week sale.

With this single already topped the Oricon weekly chart, besides having become the foreign artist with the highest amount of first-week sale for a single, Tohoshinki earns a double crown for having set another record to be the only foreign artist who has had 7 singles that rank first on Oricon weekly chart.

In this single, the title song "BREAK OUT!" was chosen as the theme song for NHK's drama "Tomehane! Suzuri Koukou Shodoubu". The coupling song is Junsu's solo "XIAHTIC"; whose lyrics, music, and arrangement were all handled by himself.
